Deborah is a founding partner of Cohen Kraemer Law, LLC. She focuses her practice on conducting thorough and impartial workplace investigations and providing engaging and interactive training for managers and employees. She also advises and counsels employers on labor and employment law matters, and represents employers at the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination. She develops and reviews employee handbooks and workplace policies. Deborah works collaboratively with companies and Human Resource professionals to identify and implement best practices and to achieve legal compliance with state and federal employment laws in an effort to improve employee retention and morale. With Deborah’s guidance, employers can find better solutions to their most sensitive workplace issues before they lead to costly litigation and employee turnover. 

With over twenty-five years of labor and employment law experience, Deborah has represented and advised public and private entities in a wide variety of industries, including the banking, finance, technology, manufacturing, utility, health and related services, retail, restaurant and hotel industries. She works with organizations of all sizes, from start-ups and non-profit organizations to multinational and publicly held corporations.

Prior to establishing Cohen Kraemer Law, LLC, Deborah worked as a labor and employment attorney at a boutique law firm in Boston and then as the founder and sole proprietor of her own labor and employment law firm. She frequently advises clients on personnel-related matters and compliance issues, including sexual harassment and discrimination complaints, hiring, performance and termination matters, wage and hour issues, and state and federal leave laws such as the Family and Medical Leave Act, the American with Disabilities Act and other state and federal leave and accommodation laws. She has been involved in many workplace investigations involving complaints of discrimination, harassment and other alleged misconduct for employers and municipalities. She has extensive experience preparing employment agreements, including separation and release agreements, and non-competition, confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements. She also develops and reviews employee manuals, policies and procedures, and conducts interactive training on many employment-related topics from sexual harassment and discrimination in the workplace to best practices involving hiring and firing.

Deborah is an Association of Workplace Investigators Certificate Holder. She has been trained to conduct workplace investigations in the private and public sectors and to conduct training to prevent discrimination and harassment in the workplace. Deborah has also completed Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD) certified courses, including Train-the-Trainer: Preventing Workplace Discrimination & Harassment and Conducting Internal Discrimination Complaint Investigations. She is an MCAD-approved workplace trainer, investigator and a court-certified conciliator. She currently serves on the Massachusetts Bar Association’s Paid Family Medical Leave Working Group.

Deborah is a current member and past Chair of the Personnel Board for the Town of Wayland, Massachusetts and she has also served on the Wayland School Committee. She is actively involved in the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation and serves on the Executive Council for the New England Chapter of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation’s Take Steps Walk.

Deborah earned her Bachelor’s degree, with honors, from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Boston College Law School where she was the recipient of the John F. Cremens Award for Outstanding Work in Clinical Programs.
